Bioplastic is 25% plant-based material. Plant base means that it comes from renewable, plant-based sources. Most of the plant sources currently used for bioplastics are usually corn, sugarcane or cellulose. Different countries may have various sources of bioplastics depending on what’s most readily available in the land of manufacture. The building blocks for the plant-based products can come from any of these emerging sources. We intend to inform the reader of the latest developments as they become commercially viable and available.
We are committed to keeping BPA, fluorocarbons, and other such nasty compounds out of the products that we sell. Please report to us if you find such toxic materials in any one of our products. In 2017 a study found extensive use of fluorinated chemicals in desserts and bread wrappers. This study did not exclude sandwich and burger wrappers, and paperboard food packaging; all of these contain toxic chemicals. Environmental Health found PFAS in 100% of the microwave popcorn bags. We did not know of these facts ourselves, but we learn when trying to teach others.
Recycling biodegradables depend on what item you want to recycle. If it is a mattress, for example, then inquire with your local municipality how it can be safely disposed of. Waste does not readily biodegrade in landfills. Do not put compostables into your recycling! They are not recyclable and will contaminate the recycling process.
The two terms compostable and biodegradable are often used interchangeably. However, that does not mean that biodegradable plastic will fully decompose in a landfill because the necessary oxygen to decompose a product is too low in such an environment.
Not all biodegradable resins are equally biodegradable. Some don't degrade well in landfills — they're better off in an industrial composting facility. Also, because of the chemical treatment that makes them biodegradable, most can't be recycled alongside traditional plastics.
Good examples of biodegradable materials include the following:
Human and animal waste. Plant products like wood, paper, food waste, leaves, natural products. Remains of dead creatures.
List of non-biodegradable wastes include:
Plastic products like grocery bags, plastic bags, water bottles, metals, metal cans, tins, and other things of that nature.
Construction waste, rubber tires, man-made fibers like nylon, computer hardware like glass, CDs, DVDs, cellophane, processed woods, cable wires, Styrofoam...well, you are getting the idea

Every year, more than 4.9 billion plastic toothbrushes, billions of straws and disposable plastic utensils end up in garbage dumps and various natural environments around the world. All this plastic takes several centuries to decompose! Even when it does disintegrate, it's chemical composition remains intact and the entire plastic substance remains in the environment for centuries longer. A lot of this plastic is found in the oceans where birds and fish ingest it. Approximately 90% of seabirds have ingested plastic.
Bamboo is 100% natural and 100% biodegradable material replacing plastic, a substance very commonly used for the manufacture of conventional toothbrushes. Since bamboo is a plant it decomposes naturally in the environment. In short, when you dispose of your products made up of bamboo, you help eliminate unnecessary plastic in the environment by replacing it with bamboo or wood, which break down naturally.
